Türklim was found at 1996 with the name of “Association of Marmara Port Operators” in purpose to find solutions for the port operators problems on a common platform and ensuring the coordination. The initial member structure which was dominated by the Izmit Bay’s ports and terminals, has changed afterwards and expanded over the Marmara Sea with the participation of ports of Gemlik and Ambarli. Attaining his member target in the region of Marmara, our association has expanded its borders including all Turkey’s ports, during its general assembly in December 2001, moved its center to Istanbul and changed its name as Port Operators Association “MARLIM ” and with the official permission of Interior Ministry, started to use “TURKEY” in front of his name and changed again its name as Port Operators Association of Turkey “ TURKLIM” in February 2006.
The association accelerated the accession of its member number and reached to 49 ports.
Our aim is to contribute to the development of member ports, ensure the integration with the global ports and its administrative bodies, be an international institution, create the ground of any kind of coordination and cooperation with all of the sectoral institutions and help to the development of our national maritime business. Still categorized in 3 groups as private, privatized and public, all port institutions will take the identity of “private port operators” in the near future with the privatization of TCDD’s ports. Even classified as ports handling their own cargo, handling the third parties cargo and ports handling both of them; we can say that all the ports are at the same situation concerning their common problems.
